    1. Hey Ms. Bell!!!!!
I know you did just great on the first day. I've had a few technical difficulties. My computer just stopped working during one session (OHHHH NOOOO!!!) Thankfully, Ms. Green walked in at that exact time, worked her magic and fixed it. For a second or two, we couldn't see my desk top and I was sorta frazzled! But she got it back up!!!
So, ..... that was the most exciting thing!

  36. Hi All!!
I'm a veteran teacher, but new to Phalen. I feel like all of us are on equal footing this year as we are all teaching in a manner we've never taught before. Scholars in the class, scholars on line. How crazy is that?
I'm finding that the biggest thing I fight is all of the negative experiences I've had at other schools making me feel like I'm going to fail here at this new school. I'm not fighting the situation, I'm fighting my own negative self talk. SO NOT FAIR!! Thankfully, I have lots of new friends at school who keep me grounded and help me redirect my self talk.

    1. I hear you. And I hate what the negativity from that other school has done to my self confidence! They meant to tear me down as a person and as a teacher.
Thankfully Phalen was there to remind me of who I was. Sounds like that's what they did for you too. As each positive day of school goes by, I think less of that bad time and more of how much fun teaching has become again. I know that will happen for you too! I think that's what Mr. Phalen meant to have happen. He's started something amazing for the scholars and for us as well.

I didn't know last week I was to post so, here I am again. I seriously so tired and am just trying to make it to 9:00 and then I'm passing out on my pillow.

  38. My first week was awesome. I've only met with my homeroom but they are just great. We had an experiment to practice the steps of the scientific method and writing up a lab. The kids just loved it and I loved their excitement.

  39. I have had very positive interactions with parents, thus far. In my experience, the key is to make sure parents understand this is a partnership. The goal is for the scholar to succeed socially and academically. I am clear and steadfast in my assertion that I am here to help and will do everything in my power to support the scholar in achieving the goal.

  41. I am Sarah from PLA 103. For me finding a work life balance is hard because I do not know what I am doing yet. I am still learning how to do things smarter and not harder. I think eventually with time things with come to me. I find myself late and night still thinking about school and items that I still need to complete.

    ReplyDelete
  42. Hahahaha! This makes me laugh! Not really it makes me sad. This isn't my first rodeo - far from it. I can remember a time when I would go home and tell myself, "get your school work done (grade papers) and then you can have some free time." Then, I would take Friday night off, get up Sat. morning get my lesson plans done and my grading and be done. Yeah me. Then I can remember a time where I could quit at 7:00, work on Friday night, all day Sat. and take Sunday off and be OK. Now, Yeah. It is non-stop and there is no time off. Just when I think I'm ahead for refinement, I'm really behind again. Balance work and personal life? That's why people get out of teaching or the classroom! And I know what you're thinking - burnout. I doubt it, not after this many years and I can see retirement. Mostly, I want to do the best job I can possibly do for my scholars, I want to see them grow and learn. When I'm at home I can be with my family while I work and be a part of what's going on at home. I'm older and don't care to go out with friends, I just want to stay home. I wish I could knit, but there are more important things than knitting right now. And I love what I do and won't sacrifice quality for the concept of balance. For these next few years, or until retirement, this is balance for me. It is what it is. I leave balance to the younger teachers.
